AI-TranspWood Project Launches Its First Focus Group on Transparent Wood

The European research project AI-TranspWood has successfully launched its first focus group, marking a key step toward the discover of transparent wood, an innovative and sustainable material with potential to replace glass and plastics in multiple industries.

The focus group took place on October 24, 2025, at OGR Tech in Turin, bringing together professionals from several European countries, with a particular emphasis on stakeholders from the Mediterranean area. Participants were engaged in an immersive experience to explore the perceptual and functional characteristics of Transparent Wood — an emerging “perceptual hybrid” that combines familiar sensory traits of wood with those of glass and plastic.

During the session, attendees had the opportunity to observe and handle Transparetn Wood samples and contribute to a collaborative exploration through creative cognitive ergonomics techniques, including analogies and cognitive mapping. These methods were used to envision new functionalities and future market applications for a technology that is not yet commercially available.

The event concluded with a guided tour of OGR Tech and a friendly networking aperitivo.

The AI-TranspWood consortium extends its sincere appreciation to all participants for their contributions and valuable insights, which will play a crucial role in shaping the ongoing research and development of Transparent Wood!
