The collaborative research of Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland within the framework of the AI-TRANSPWOOD Horizon Project was successfully presented at the 5th 'WOOD-SCIENCE-ECONOMY' Conference in PoznaĆ, Poland on December 5th.
The presented work focused on multiscale modelling of the monomer inflation process for Transparent Wood Production. This work combined 3 different simulation methods: Molecular dynamics, Multiscale modelling, and the FEniCSx finite element framework.
1. Molecular Dynamics: This method was employed to estimate the monomer solution viscosity.
2. Multiscale Modelling: This technique was used to estimate the permeability of the delignified wood.
3. FEniCSx Finite Element Framework: The above methods are then combined in this framework to simulate the overall monomer infiltration process.
This conference brought together wood science and forestry researchers and industry professionals from across Europe. The event also featured representatives of State Forest Poland. The second day of the conference included a field excursion to Brzechwa (Wooden house manufacturer), and the Oborniki Forest District.
