BM Plastic

Founded in 1943, BM Plastic began its journey manufacturing wooden furniture. Even then, BM had a flair for innovation, and it wasn't long before the company was producing wooden TV and radio cabinet. Then in the early 70s, thermoplastics replaced wood, and BM continued to produce highly aesthetic products, specializing in High Gloss Black. BM jump in the automotive market in the 2010s, investing in painting, bonding, and welding technologies.
Today, BM Plastic is also a player in the Medical Equipment sector and with its 550 employees generate sales of €70 million from its three production sites in Italy, Poland, and Mexico. 

Role in the project
 
BM Plastic is mainly involved in WP11 - the Demo use cases activities and in particular BM Plastic will lead the In-mold decoration based on transparent wood materials demo activity.
This task will focus on developing a decorated piece by:

• Testing the compatibility between substrates and the injection molding structural materials;
• Printing the decoration design onto transparent wood film;  
• Printed decoration thermoforming (if it was required) and Injection Molding integration with thermoplastic compatible materials;  
• Characterization and validation of In Mold Decoration: delamination, ageing tests.

So, BM will have to study and define a dedicated Tool in order to enabled all the needed tests that will have to be performed. Then BM will realize the Tool and the manufacturing tests to provide samples for characterisation and validation.
